SaySo is a push-to-talk dictation app for Mac and Windows. You hold a key, speak, and let go — SaySo types what you said wherever your cursor is, in almost any app. It can also tidy your words up: removing umms and false starts, or rewriting them formally for email. It costs $19.99 once, with no subscription.
No. You pay $19.99 one time and the app is yours. There is no monthly fee from us. Separately, SaySo connects to your own Deepgram (and optionally Groq) account for the speech recognition itself — that usage is billed by those providers at their published pay-as-you-go rates. Yes. The Mac app supports macOS 12 or newer and is signed and notarized. The Windows app supports Windows 10 or newer and is currently in beta. See the platform pages for details: SaySo on Mac and SaySo on Windows.
Yes — that is the whole point. SaySo inserts text at your cursor in email clients, chat apps, documents, browsers, and code editors. It pastes through the clipboard (and restores what your clipboard held before), with simulated typing as a fallback. Completed dictations are normally saved to History inside the app too — and if neither insertion nor saving succeeds, SaySo copies the text to your clipboard so you can paste it yourself.
Deepgram does the actual speech-to-text. SaySo streams your audio directly from your computer to your own Deepgram account — SaySo does not run its own voice servers and never receives your audio. That is why there is no monthly fee: you are not paying us to relay your voice. The 2-minute key guide walks you through creating the key, and the BYOK page explains the model in depth.
No — Groq is optional. It powers the AI cleanup styles: Clean (remove filler words, fix spelling) and Formal (rewrite as a well-structured note). Without a Groq key you still get accurate dictation with Deepgram's punctuation and formatting — just no AI cleanup. The one exception: writing Urdu or Hindi in Roman letters uses Groq, so that feature needs a key.
Groq offers a free tier subject to its published rate limits — heavier usage can reach them. Deepgram is pay-as-you-go: roughly 50¢ for a full hour of actual talking, and you only pay while speaking. New Deepgram accounts start with free credit. Provider pricing and limits can change, so check the current Deepgram pricing and Groq pricing pages.
Locally, on your computer, in a small database inside the app's data folder. History never leaves your machine, and SaySo has no server that could receive it. You can search, copy, and delete entries from the History screen in the app.
While you hold the talk key, your audio streams to Deepgram — under your own account — and comes back as text. When an AI style runs — Clean, Formal, a History re-polish, or Roman Urdu/Hindi — that text (never the audio) is sent to Groq, again under your own account, and comes back tidied. The As-spoken and Brush-up styles never call Groq. How each provider handles data under your account is governed by their own terms, so review Deepgram's and Groq's documentation. SaySo itself is not in that path and stores your transcripts only in the local History on your device.
Yes. Start recording, release, and press the talk key again quickly — a double-tap — and recording locks on so you can speak without holding anything. Press the key once more to stop and type the result. A locked recording stops automatically after 20 minutes as a safety cap.
SaySo auto-detects ten languages — English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Hindi, Russian, and Japanese — even if you switch mid-sentence. You can also pick one specific language for the best accuracy, including languages beyond those ten, such as Urdu. Urdu and Hindi can be typed in Roman letters, the way people text.
Two. Your license key activates on up to 2 devices — say, your desktop and your laptop, or a Mac and a Windows machine. To move to a new computer, open SaySo → Settings → Deactivate on an old one, and the slot frees up.
Yes. The Windows app works, but it is in beta and not yet code-signed, so Windows may show a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen on install. Click More info → Run anyway to proceed. Details on the Windows page.
SaySo fails safe. If AI cleanup fails or is rate-limited, English dictations fall back to a safe Basic tidy-up and other languages keep your exact transcript — your words are typed either way, not dropped. Completed dictations are normally saved to local History; if neither inserting nor saving succeeds, the text goes to your clipboard. The in-app notification bell tells you what happened — for example if your Deepgram credit has run out.
