What "beta" means, plainly
Under the hood it is the same app as the Mac version — the same dictation pipeline, the same cleanup styles, the same local history. If something misbehaves on your machine, email [email protected] and a human reads it.
What it does on Windows
- Push-to-talk anywhere. Pick a talk key; hold it and speak. Text lands wherever your cursor is — email, chat, documents, code.
- Hands-free lock. Double-tap the talk key and recording locks on until you tap again (with a 20-minute safety cap).
- AI cleanup. Clean removes umms and typos; Formal rewrites your words as a well-structured note — great for Outlook. Per-app rules can switch styles automatically.
- A quiet overlay. A thin line at the bottom of the screen becomes a small listening pill while you talk, then gets out of your way.
- Local history. Completed dictations are saved on your PC — searchable, copyable, deletable.
Requirements and setup
- Windows 10 or newer.
- Buy SaySo ($19.99 once) — your license key arrives by email. One license covers two devices.
- Download the installer, approve the SmartScreen prompt described above, and paste in your license key.
- Add your Deepgram API key (required — speech-to-text on your own account, roughly 50¢ per hour of actual talking, with free credit for new accounts). The 2-minute key guide shows every click.
- Optionally add a Groq key (free tier) for the Clean and Formal styles.

Honest limitations
- The installer is unsigned for now — expect the SmartScreen prompt.
- No offline mode: dictation needs an internet connection to reach your providers.
- As a beta, rough edges are possible; when something fails, SaySo fails safe — if AI cleanup fails, English gets a safe Basic tidy-up and other languages keep your exact transcript, completed dictations are normally in History, and if neither typing nor saving succeeds the text goes to your clipboard.
Common questions
Is the beta a separate purchase?
No. One $19.99 license covers Mac and Windows — you can activate on one of each. When the Windows app leaves beta, it is the same license.
How is this different from Windows built-in voice typing?
SaySo adds the held-key workflow, AI cleanup (Clean and Formal), automatic per-app styles, a searchable local history, and your choice of speech engine — Deepgram Nova-3 under your own account.
Which apps does it type into?
Most editable text fields: Outlook, Teams, Slack, Word, browsers, terminals, and code editors. Insertion is clipboard-based with simulated typing as a fallback, and your previous clipboard contents are restored.
